The New American Youth Ballet is looking for help. It’s just six weeks before they are scheduled to perform the Downtown Nutcracker, and they find themselves suddenly without a place to rehearse or to conduct classes. The group had been meeting at a building in the southern part of Battery Park City, but the room there is no longer available. The group hopes to secure a permanent space by the new year, but say they are desperate to find temporary space immediately.
Specifically, they need a rehearsal room on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Thursdays, 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. until mid-December. Anyone who knows of an available room Downtown can contact the ballet group’s director, Elizabeth Fernandez at 212-945-2926 or 607-725-5092.
The mission of the New American Youth Ballet, a non-profit organization, is to make ballet instruction accessible to all children, regardless of financial circumstances. The Downtown Nutcracker will be performed on Sat., Dec. 18 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Stuyvesant High School. Tickets can be purchased by calling 212-945-2926.
