Liberty tops first seeded and undefeated Patriots

The match-up between team Liberty and the Patriots was a nail-biting duel to the end with a score of 9-8 in Liberty’s favor. The Patriots took an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Patriot outfielder Kayla Albano caught a long fly ball and threw out a runner at first to complete a double play, allowing Liberty only one run in the bottom of the first. Heavy Liberty swing, including Nastaja Stepec’s two-out double with the bases loaded in the 4th, three singles by Maddie Ostergaard, two singles by Nina Karavasilis and singles by Ella Mulligan, Lyndsey Horowitz, Ava Cutler and Sophie Stoch allowed team Liberty to take the lead late in the game.

In the field, Maya Greenberg’s outfield assist provided Liberty with a much-needed second out in the top of the 4th. The Patriots were led by strong pitching by Blaise Behar and Ari Howard, and catching by Ellen Gaffney and Brooke Kirwin. Outfielders Mia Bonifay, Lucy Bryant, and Sophia Leitner also had strong games.

Arianna Asencio led the Patriots offensively with two hits, including a double. Amber Thiery, Jalene Lipowitz and Sarah Robbins had hits for the Patriots as well. Twirler, Anna Van Patten closed the game for Liberty, striking out two and making the game winning pop-up fly catch to clinch the win.

Patriots win over Battery

In what started out with a good pitching duel between the Battery’s Ava O’Mara and the Patriots’ Ari Howard, the score was 2-0, Patriots’ favor, after three innings. Howard doubled down the fist base line, driving in two runs, but was thrown out at third while attempting a triple to end the inning.

The Patriots scored 5 more runs in the fifth inning until Sophia Marino pitched for the Battery and quieted things down. Blaise Behar pitched the last two innings for the Patriots, bringing the score to 10-3 by the bottom of the sixth with bases loaded. She made a game-ending double play with a hard line drive off the bat of Zoe Morrison.
