One of the last of the East Village’s true characters, Jim “Mosaic Man” Power, with his dog, Jessie Jean, packed up his belongings in a truck on Monday night, leaving the city for greener pastures in Pennsylvania. Power, who decorated street lampposts all over the East Village with mosaics of broken pottery, plates and glass beads, and who claims actor Tyrone Power as a distant relative, was locked out of his St. Mark’s Pl. apartment a few months ago and had since been living on the streets in a van in the East Village. It’s unclear who will maintain Power’s mosaic lampposts now that he has left the East Village.
