Rumors that Gucci is about to buy the two adjacent buildings that contain the Les Pierres Antiques store at the corner of Bleecker and Charles Sts. are false, according to a broker for the property.
“I can tell you we’ve got a lot of interested parties, but, as far as I know, none of them are Gucci,” said Mary Vetri, the broker, with the William B. May company. The property has been for sale for over three years, but after a For Sale sign was put up a few weeks ago, interest increased, Vetri said. The property is being marketed for $5.8 million, she said.
Apparently fueling the rumor is the fact that Ralph Lauren opened a store nearby and Marc Jacobs, fashion boutique is a block away.
The top part of the buildings is currently being leased for short-term rentals of up to three months, with apartments furnished with Les Pierrres’ antiques. From 1968 until a few years ago, the buildings were owned by Pierre LeVec and Pierre Moulin, who lived upstairs and ran Les Deux Pierres Antiques.
LeVec and Moulin passed away within a few years of each other, leaving the shop to two employees and the upstairs to the two employees, plus a third employee and a niece. Part of the estate, the store’s lease runs for another 10 or 11 years.
