The Parks Department’s 10th Annual MulchFest for the mulching of post-holiday Christmas trees will be held on Sat. Jan. 7 and Sun. Jan 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three Downtown locations: Washington Square Park at Fifth Ave. and Washington Square North; Tompkins Square Park, in the park at E. Ninth St. between Avenues A and B; and Union Square at E. 17th St. and Union Square West. The citywide service allows New Yorkers to drop off their holiday trees and wreaths at designated parks for mulching. The mulch that is produced helps Parks Department maintain parks and gardens citywide. All lights, ornaments and decorations must be removed from the trees prior to drop-off. Participants will be able to take wood chips and/or mulch home from the designated chipping sites.
