Fidel Castro dead: World leaders, politicians react to former Cuban president’s passing

Fidel Castro, Cuba’s former president, died on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at age 90. Castro’s brother made a television announcement following his death.

“Ever onward, to victory,” he said, using the slogan of the Cuban revolution.

Castro, who led the Cuban revolutionary movement, had been ill since 2006. Some world leaders, including the former leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, have released statements expressing their condolences. In contrast, some Cubans living in America and other officials say his death marks the passing of a “tyrant.”
