The City’s Office of Emergency Management is holding a hurricane preparedness presentation on August 2 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, 199 Chambers St., where the agency will provide information about the city’s Hurricane Plan and how to protect households during a hurricane.
If a hurricane struck New York City, most of Lower Manhattan would have to be evacuated since it is in a flood zone. Some scientists predict that over time, flooding in Lower Manhattan will begin to occur more frequently after heavy rains as global warming progresses. The presentation is meant to educate the public on how to handle hurricane emergencies.
The event is free and open to the public but seating is limited.
