For at least one day this summer, the hippies will replace the yuppies in the Meatpacking District.
At 7:30 on Wed., July 9, the cast from the Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production of “Hair” will perform six numbers from the musical on Gansevoort St. between Hudson and Greenwich Sts. The free performance is a joint presentation of the Public and the Theory Icon Project, the artistic/philanthropic arm of the clothing company Theory, which has its corporate headquarters in the neighborhood and will be selling concert T-shirts partly to benefit the Public.
The entire cast, which features Broadway star Jonathan Groff, will be on hand for the 45-minute performance, which includes the show’s better-known numbers: “Aquarius,” “Hair,” “I Got Life,” “Black Boys,” “White Boys” and “Let the Sun Shine In.” The full production opens in Central Park on July 22.
