A funeral Mass for Nixzmary Brown, the 7-year-old Brooklyn girl who during her short life was mercilessly tortured by her stepfather and mother before being beaten to death by her stepfather earlier this month, was held at St. Mary’s Church on Grand St. last Wednesday. Above, the Harlem Youth Marines carried her casket into the service. In his eulogy, Reverend Robert O’Neil said of the young girl whose tragic death has horrified and outraged the city, “She was touched by evil here in this life, but she is beyond that now.” Below, a memorial mural to Nixzmary Brown at E. Sixth St. and Avenue C painted by local graffiti artist Chico.
