The Gramercy Park Block Association and the trustees of Gramercy Park are leading a celebration of the 175th anniversary of the founding of the gated green square between 20th and 21st Sts., the only private park in New York City.
Anniversary events began May 7 with a walking tour of the park, laid out in 1831 by Samuel B. Ruggles, owner of the plot between Third Ave. and Park Ave. S.
“We also plan a flower planting in the park by neighborhood children on May 15 and an outdoor spring concert on June 8,” said Arlene Harrison, president of the block association and trustee of the park. Capping the event will be a grand celebration party on Sept. 26 at The Players Club.
