Happy one hundredth!

Friends and staff of The Caring Community feted member Sally Gallup, right, for her 100th birthday on April 27. Gallup was born April 24, 1911, in the East Village. After graduating high school, she began a career as a model for a fashion house and became what she called their “chief cook and bottle washer.” She went on to do clerical accounting and lived in the Bronx, until retiring in her early seventies. She moved to her current LaGuardia Place Mitchell-Lama co-op 22 years ago. “Just an average citizen,” she laughed. She guessed The Caring Community has provided meals and social-work case assistance to her for about a decade, and is always quick to express her gratitude for The Caring Community.
