The Liz Christy Garden will celebrate its reopening with a festive hat party on Sat., May 12, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. People are invited to “wear your funkiest, funniest or favorite hat” to the garden at the northeast corner of Bowery and E. Houston St. Prizes will be given for best hats. For those without hats or who want to decorate their hats more, Annie Shaver Crandell will man a hat-making table. Light refreshments — strawberries, brownies, lemonade and iced tea — provided by Judy Schiff or Ready-to-Eat on Hudson St. will be served. There will be a small silent auction of two paintings and some jewelry. Donations at the gate will be accepted to support Liz Christy Garden. The rain date is Sun., May 13, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The garden was gated for two years for the construction of the new Avalon Bowery Place apartment building just north of it.
