A 2-foot section of girder fell from the High Line at the corner of 10th Ave. at W. 30th St. and crashed through the rear window of a car parked at the curb Wednesday afternoon Dec. 20 while the driver was in the front seat. The driver was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital with minor injuries but badly shaken.
The southern two-thirds of the High Line — a derelict railroad viaduct — between Gansevoort and 30th Sts. is being converted into an elevated park; but there is no construction on the High Line’s northern third, which goes around the rail yards between 10th and 12th Aves. from 30th to 34th Sts., and is not yet included in the city’s High Line Park project. The girder that fell was located just north of the section currently under renovation.
