A distraught woman comforted a friend as he was being attended by Fire Department personnel, right, after he was hit by a car in front of 131 Christopher St. around 9:15 p.m. on Fri., March 4.
According to police, the victim, a 40-year-old Jersey City man, had been on the sidewalk when a black Mercedes-Benz going westbound on Christopher St. mounted the pavement at the location and hit him.
A police spokesperson said, after being struck, the man “landed on a fire hydrant.”
According to witnesses, the driver did not stop and was last seen turning northbound onto Greenwich St.
The injured man was removed to Bellevue Hospital in an unknown condition, but was expected to live, according to police.
