On May 14, the East Village’s Ninth Precinct returned to its rebuilt stationhouse on E. Fifth St. The precinct was temporarily relocated for the past four years to the Housing Bureau police district building on Avenue C while the E. Fifth St. precinct was rebuilt from the ground up, with elevators for the first time. “So far, everyone’s excited,” said Deputy Inspector Dennis De Quatro, precinct commanding officer. “Happy to be home. No more walking up to the fifth floor.” A reopening ceremony, at which the community is welcome, will be held Fri., June 8, starting at 11 a.m. The police commissioner and mayor have been invited to attend.
