It’s the end of the world as we know it…or maybe not

The end of the world a.k.a. the Rapture was supposed to occur on Saturday. Large crowds gathered in Union Square (where else?) for the event. At 6:27 p.m., as it started raining, the crowds dispersed, perhaps to head for their “last suppers.” Chinatown resident John Press rode his bicycle to Union Square, where he mounted a cross, above left. “I think comedy is close to the profound,” he said after dismounting safely. “It’s such a symbol. To mock it is to show how deep it is. But, I’m a serious atheist,” he added. Above right, all that was left of someone who presumably was saved was his clothes.
