Visiting Neighbors, a local nonprofit that provides a helping hand to the community’s elderly, received some help in return thanks to the Thanksgiving dinner hosted by BAMRA (Bleecker Area Merchants’ and Residents’ Association), Le Souk and Falucka lounge.
The event, held annually at Le Souk, the LaGuardia Place Egyptian hot spot, is free to all in the community who might not otherwise be able to celebrate Thanksgiving with others. A collection box for Visiting Neighbors was passed around at the two seatings.
This year, $840 was collected from the dinner, which was 100 percent matched by BAMRA, Le Souk and Falucka, with Visiting Neighbors receiving a total of $3,360.
Ray Cline, resident chairperson of BAMRA, said, “The Thanksgiving dinner and collection for Visiting Neighbors by BAMRA, Le Souk and Falucka — all which are right here in the area — truly embody Visiting Neighbors’ slogan of ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors.’ We are proud to have been part of the event and to make this matching donation.”
