Hudson Square is not myth
To the Editor,
Perhaps it’s because the holiday season is rapidly approaching, but when I read Bettina Goldberg’s letter regarding Hudson Square I thought of a letter received by The Sun in 1897 from a young girl named Virginia.
So with all due respect to the brilliant editors of The Sun who so powerfully assured the 8-year-old girl, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,” it seems appropriate to say, yes, Ms. Goldberg, there is a place known as Hudson Square. It exists as certain as the creative energy that flows through the minds and souls of the people who work here, in the synergistic relationships developed among the companies based here, and in the light-filled streets characterized by the warmth and charm of a small town.
And in the months and years ahead, as the neighborhood continues to progress, soon the streets will have a look and feel that distinctly defines Hudson Square, as well.

Let them do their jobs
To the Editor,
What the heck is wrong with City Hall? There are four departments that are a vital part of every city (especially New York City) that shouldn’t be touched: the Fire Department, the Police Department, the Sanitation Department, and the Department of Education. The Fire Department is here to save people from fires and emergencies. The Police Department is here to protect people from the lunatics who prey on our elderly and children. The Sanitation Department is here to keep our city clean and prevent bad odors and disease from garbage. And our Department of Education teachers are here to teach our children so that they can live a better life in the future.
I don’t know how they can grade teachers. The teacher could be one of the best but if a kid can’t learn like other kids or doesn’t want to learn, why blame the teacher? If a parent doesn’t want to or cannot help their kid with schoolwork, why blame the teacher for that? Would it be right to lay off or take away hours from our people who work in City Hall? This city should stop wasting money on bicycle and bus lanes. They spent millions of dollars so that people could have their pizza and Chinese food delivered in 10 minutes instead of 15 minutes. This is Manhattan Island, not London. They should start using their heads for something other than a hat rack. The people that I mentioned in these departments also have bills to pay and mouths to feed. Leave them alone and let them do their jobs.
