A 45-year-old driver was stabbed multiple times over the weekend after he tried to confront another driver during an episode of extreme road rage on the Upper East Side, police said.

The man, who was not immediately identified, got out of his car to confront the other man at about 11:20 p.m. Saturday on East 61st Street, near York Avenue. The victim tried to pull the suspect out of his car.

But the suspect got violent, stabbing the man multiple times in his stomach, police said.

They both got back in their cars and drove off, but the victim lost control, slamming his car into a parked vehicle on East 76th Street and Madison Avenue. From there emergency personnel took him to New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell where he was listed in stable condition.

The suspect, described as having dreadlocks, was still on the loose Sunday. Police said he fled in a blue Ford with Rhode Island plates.

It was not immediately clear what the road rage was about.
