A worker brought in some equipment into the Skyscraper Museum April 1 to put some finishing touches on the museum, which opens to the public April 2. Founded in 1996 by director Carol Willis, the museum has had several temporary homes in the Wall St. area before getting its first permanent residence in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel at 39 Battery Pl. “A permanent home in Lower Manhattan was the dream from the start,” said Willis. The first exhibit in the 5,800-square-foot space is called Building a Collection and highlights the history of tall buildings in New York City and around the world. The museum space was donated by Millennium Partners, the hotel’s developer, the museum design was provided pro bono by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and the construction work was donated by Tishman Construction Company. The museum will be open Wed. –Sun. from noon – 6 p.m. Admission is $2.50 for students and senior citizens, and $5 for others. The phone number is 212-968-1961 and the Web site is www.skyscraper.org.
