Ahmed Sharif (above), a 43-year-old cab driver, was stabbed in the neck, face and shoulders last Tuesday night by a drunk rider, reportedly after being asked whether he was Muslim.
Michael Enright, 21, has been charged for attempted murder as a hate crime and a slew of other charges, according to the N.Y.P.D.
“This attack runs counter to everything that New Yorkers believe, no matter what God we may pray to,” said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in a statement.
Enright’s ex-friends say he’s a passionate film student and, while he would often act strangely when inebriated, he never said anything outright racist.
