New York University announced Monday the opening of the Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, a new, 865-seat theater located in N.Y.U.’s Kimmel Center for University Life at LaGuardia Pl. and Washington Sq. S. N.Y.U. will host an open house this Thurs., Sept. 18 from 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. to showcase the theater for the performing arts community and community in general.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony and inaugural performance will take place two weeks later, on Thurs., Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m., and will feature performances by the Parsons Dance Company and guest dancers Angel Corella of American Ballet Theatre and Jenifer Ringer of New York City Ballet.
Opening season at the Skirball Center will feature theatrical productions, films and, principally, a series of performances by prominent dance companies. Dances slated for the opening season include: Ballet Hispanico; Elisa Monte Dance; American Ballet Theatre Studio Company and Complexions.
