The NYPD said it’s looking into a possible post-SantaCon melee involving six brawlers on the streets of Manhattan.
A YouTube video of the Santas fighting, at what appears to be Third Avenue and 16th Street in Gramercy, went viral Sunday, a day after the controversial event. Throughout the 1:20 clip dubbed "Santapocolypse NYC 2013" several bystanders and people inside nearby shops do nothing as the men throw fists at each other in the middle of a snowy street.
No cops showed up during the quick brawl, but a police spokeswoman said the department obtained a copy of the video and is investigating the matter. The YouTube user who uploaded the clip, Chris Lau, didn’t return messages for comment.
Police refused to say if the brawlers took part in SantaCon but the fight was one of many rowdy occurrences that were shared on social media throughout the weekend.
Despite a call by organizers to keep things civilized, there were dozens of reports, pictures and tweets of people dressed as Santa and his helpers roaming the streets inebriated and disturbing pedestrians.
