Olivia Fitzsimons, an East Village resident for more than 25 years, died at Beth Israel Hospital on June 5 at the age of 60.
She was born and raised in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, and came to New York City at the end of the 1970s.
For several years she worked as a waitress, first at Amon Doran’s on Second Ave. in Midtown and later at Farney’s on Second Ave. at E. 18th St.
She subsequently worked at a skincare salon that became affiliated with BioForce and in the 1990s did television and radio commercials for BioForce products. In recent years she worked for BioForce from her home on E. 10th St. near St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery.
Olivia Fitzsimons and Michael Hydock were married in 1987 and separated 10 years later. They were divorced in 2002.
Neighbors recalled her love for dogs and her efforts in finding homes for stray dogs and cats. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Church, 131 E. 10th St., at 6:30 p.m. Fri., June 20, and the funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 E. 14th St. at First Ave.
Survivors include three brothers, Cyril Fitzsimons, owner of Cyril’s Fish House in Montauk, L.I., Philip Fitzsimons, of Dublin, and Michael Fitzsimons, owner of D.G. Opel car dealership in Dublin, and her sister-in-law, Nanno Fitzsimons, of Dublin. A sister, Elizabeth Fitzsimons, of Dublin, also survives as well as three nieces and two nephews.
