Home Depot and New York Cares teamed up last Wednesday for Home Depot Manhattan’s first “orange project” at Orchard Alley community garden, E. Fourth St. between Avenues C and D. More than 30 volunteers leveled and repaved the pathways, making them safe and wheelchair accessible for visitors, and “added a splash of orange” — the home-improvement chain’s signature color. Four other “orange” refurbishment and revitalization projects are scheduled in Manhattan in the next two months, including, on Oct. 9, the Lower East Side Ecology Center in East River Park. The Ecology Center’s house will be refurbished and painted, access to the Center will be increased, shelving and other structures will be constructed to improve organization and bulbs to help plants flourish will be installed. Home Depot, which opened its new W. 23rd St. superstore two weeks ago, has invested $150 million in community
improvement projects.
