The fourth annual Taste of the Village saw 400 people spend two hours last Thursday sampling gourmet specialties under a big white tent in Washington Square Park. The food and drink were supplied by more than 20 local restaurants, wineries and breweries. Clockwise from top: serving up slices of caviar pie; washing down the scrumptious fare; actress Jill Hennessy, left, and Honi Klein, executive director of the Village Alliance business improvement district, which hosts the event, which is a fundraiser for the park. “I thought it was marvelous,” said Klein, speaking afterwards. “I think it was the most successful tasting we’ve had in four years. A very congenial, social neighborhood party to which everybody is invited.” The BID area includes Eighth St. from Sixth Ave. to Second Ave. and St. Mark’s Pl., Astor Pl. and three blocks on Sixth Ave. between W. Eighth and W. Fourth Sts. Although the park is not in the BID’s district, Klein says it is the area’s “primary destination.”
