Pola Fluss, co-owner with her husband, Norbert, of a hairdressing establishment in the Village for 45 years, died June 7 in Calvary Hospice in New Jersey at the age of 76.
She had been diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago and moved to the hospice from her Village home a few hours before she died, her husband said.
She and her husband Norbert Fluss, both Holocaust survivors, came to the
U. S. in 1952. They moved to the Village a few years later and began their business, Norbert Hair Stylist, on E. Eighth St., where she worked as a colorist.
Born in Poland to Herman and Malwina Pohoriles, she was a member of a prominent Jewish family who lost their land during World War II. She met her husband in Germany and they were married in Munich in 1949.
Their customers in then Village included New York University professors, Marilyn Monroe and Eleanor Roosevelt, Norbert recalled. They sold their business in 2002.
In addition to her husband, their daughter, Renee Ann Klein and a grandson, Robert, survive.
