Burglary arrest

Police arrested Mark Fields, 38, on Mon., July 28, and charged him with the Jan. 30 burglary of a candy story at 25 Park Pl. near Church St. Police traced the suspect, who has previous burglary convictions, from D.N.A. found on a mask that was left behind in the store. Fields pleaded guilty on Fri. Aug. 1 to the burglary charge and to stealing $2,000 in cash and $1,500 in phone cards and lottery tickets. He was sentenced to a year in jail.

Club assault

A woman patron of a club at 88 Fulton St. near Gold St. was arrested at about 1:50 a.m. Sun., Aug. 3 and charged with assault for stabbing another woman patron in the abdomen, police said. The suspect, Rahnisha Toler, 23, of Newark, N.J., was arguing with the victim when she pulled a knife and stabbed her adversary, police said. She was charged with assault and bail was set at $2,500 pending an Aug. 8 court appearance, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

Crime down Downtown

Felony crime in the First Precinct covering Lower Manhattan south of Houston St. west of Broadway and river to river south of the Brooklyn Bridge declined 34.2 percent for the week ending Aug. 3 compared to the same week last year, according to N.Y.P.D. crime reports. There were no robberies during the week compared to five the same week last year and no burglaries for the week this year compared to five last year. Grand larceny also declined, with 20 reported for the week this year compared to 26 the year before.

For the 28-day period ending Aug. 3, burglaries declined 62 percent with eight reported this year compared to 21 in the same period last year. Robbery was also down for the 28-day period this year when five were reported compared to seven the previous year.
