Vitamin hold-up
A man walked into the GNC vitamin shop branch at 134 Fulton St. between Broadway and Nassau Street around 6:45 p.m. Thurs., April 21, pointed a black pistol at the cashier and said, “You know what it is.” The cashier handed over $379 in various denominations and then pressed an alarm button behind the register as the suspect walked out. Police canvassed the area but did not find the thief.
Subway stop robbers
Four suspects stopped a victim, 17, in the subway station at Fulton and Nassau Streets around 5 p.m. on Wed., April 20, grabbed a shopping bag from his hand and one of the suspects said, “Give me all your money,” police said. The victim surrendered $20 and the four walked away.
Diner burglary
An employee on a construction project in the Columbine Diner, 227 W. Broadway near White Street, discovered when he came to work at 8 a.m. Sat., April 23 that a front window was ajar, the Plexiglas window cover was broken, and the place was in disarray. Police discovered that $700 in cash and a desktop computer had been stolen. The front door was closed but unlocked, leading police to surmise that the thief might have exited through that door.
Lost his shirt
A man visiting from England stopped at a vendor on Fulton Street in the South Street Seaport at 11:15 a.m., Mon., April 25 and tried on a shirt but decided not to buy it. A helpful passerby helped him take off the shirt and at the same time relieved him of $200 in a money clip and his iPod, as he discovered later after he got on a tour bus.
Shoe shop lift
An Inwood resident, 27, was shopping for shoes at the Steve Madden store at 529 Broadway at Spring Street around 7:30 p.m. Fri., April 22, when she discovered that her wallet had been stolen. The victim later learned that an unauthorized charge of $111.03 had been made on her Bank of America credit card at the Manhattan Mall on Sixth Avenue and 33rd Street. A withdrawal from her debit card was also attempted but the transaction was refused, police said.
Harbor floater
The N.Y.P.D. harbor patrol discovered an Asian man in his 20s unconscious in the water near Ellis Island around 10:40 a.m. Wed., April 20, and brought him to the North Cove Marina in Battery Park City where an Emergency Medical Service team declared him dead on arrival. The identification of the victim was still pending this week and the cause of death was under investigation.
