Another man found in Hudson River

A man was found dead and floating in the Hudson River near North Cove Marina in Battery Park City on Mon., Apr. 27 at 11 a.m., police say.

The police responded to a 911 call and found the 57-year-old man fully clothed in the water. The Harbor Unit also responded and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. There has been no identification of the man and the investigation is ongoing, police say.

Earlier this month, on Sun., Apr. 19, another man, 23 and who lived in the Bronx, was found dead on the Hudson River near South St. in the Financial District, police say.

Mugger menaces woman with his knife

On Apr. 24, a Friday night, a woman, 35, boarded a downtown 1 train at Chambers St. at 3 a.m. A man —wearing blue jeans, a dark hooded sweatshirt and red leather jacket — approached her and showed her a knife with a serrated blade. He ran it along her arm without injuring her and said, “Give me your phone,” police say.

The woman, who lives in Queens, tried to look up at the man, but he pushed her head down and held it there, and said, “Don’t scream and don’t look at me,” according to police. He then asked for her purse, and as she gave it to him, the doors opened at Rector St. and he fled out of the train.

The woman also got off the train and called police. Her purse was found above ground, abandoned but minus a $600 iPad, $300 iPhone and $250 Samsung smartphone. Police say a DNA analysis of the interior of the bag and the straps was done, but there is no suspect.

Thousands thrown into the water

A fight between a ticket seller and an acquaintance turned very expensive when one of the men threw almost $10,000 worth of property and cash into the river, police say.

It is unclear what started the altercation on Fri., Apr. 24 at 11 a.m. near South and Broad Sts. in the Financial District. The suspect ripped the seller’s stuff away and threw it into the water. He also pushed and then spit into the ticket seller’s face, who is 55 and from the Bronx, police say.

Police arrested the man, 36 and also from the Bronx, three days later. The ticket seller’s $3,050 credit card machine, $500 smart phone and $2,040 in cash were not recovered. Police did not say what kind of tickets he sold.

Fashionable break-in

It was a photo shoot gone awry — with a thief getting away with over $17,000 worth of cameras and equipment, police say.

A 27-year-old woman who lives in Soho was taking photos for a shoot happening at the corner of Duane and Greenwich Sts. in Tribeca on Tues., Apr. 21 at 11:30 a.m. She left her suitcase — filled with costly cameras, necessary accoutrements, and an Apple laptop worth $17,375 — unattended. When she returned around 7 minutes later, it was gone.

Purse heist

A thief damaged a rear window to get into a white 1993 Ford Econoline van at a parking garage in the Seaport and got away with a garbage bag full of 100 handbags worth around $2,500, police say.

The owner, a 58-year-old Harlem man, said when he came back to the van at Laz Parking at 294 Pearl St. on Wed., Apr.22 at 1 p.m., the window was damaged and the bag full of merchandise was gone.  Police did not say if the victim was delivering bags to a store.
