blotter

GRAND LARCENY: New cab drivers | A livery driver was left without a car of his own in the early morning of Sun., Nov. 22. The 57-year-old man picked up four twentysomethings at the corner of W. 13th and Hudson Sts. at about 5 a.m. He drove them a few blocks to the northwest corner of W. 15th St. and Eighth Ave. and told them to visit an ATM when a credit card failed to settle the fare. Three of the passengers went with the driver to get the cash, then commandeered his vehicle and fled the scene. Police later found the vehicle in the Lower East Side with the front seats and radio damaged. The only other sign of the perpetrators was a water bottle that they left behind, police said.

PETIT LARCENY: Smelly situation | A 56-year-old man left his black backpack in a porta-potty in Chelsea Park on Fri., Nov. 20. He watched as another man left the facilities with a similar-looking backpack at about midnight. The slip of mind, and failure to confront the second man near the intersection of W. 23rd St. and Eleventh Ave. cost the Chelsea resident his NYC ID, $300 headphones and a pair of khakis, police said.

PETIT LARCENY: Mail intervention | Maple-flavored sugar cookies, caramel corn and a record by Peter Pan were among the loot taken from a package delivered to a Chelsea woman while she was on vacation earlier this month. She told police that on Nov. 20, she returned to her W. 28th St. home, but could not find the package that the Post Office supposedly delivered on Nov. 2. She discovered that the thief had already used a $50 gift card that came with the package. A police report did not include any suspects in the heist.

GRAND LARCENY: A felonious way to get a lady’s attention | Someone reached their hand into a 22-year-old woman’s purse on Sun., Nov. 22, as she left a bar at 355 W. 16th St. She felt the wallet being removed and turned around to confront the thief.  A thirtysomething man said, “I didn’t take it,” then fled eastbound at about 3 a.m. Police have not been able to recover the maroon Marc Jacobs wallet, nor its contents. No charges were subsequently made on the credit card, according to a police report.
