Hurricane deaths
Two deaths in Downtown have been attributed to Hurricane Sandy, which struck the city on Mon., Oct. 29.
Frank Suber, 55, of Staten Island, was found dead inside a commercial building at 90 Broad St. at around 1:30 a.m. on Tues., Oct. 30, police said. It was unclear why he was there. Police believe Suber was swept away by rushing flood water as it passed through the area, and was pushed into the building, where he drowned.
Anthony Narh of the Bronx was found dead inside a parked car on the lower level of an Empire Parking garage at 92 Laight St. around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 30, police said. Narh, who was in his 50s, is believed to have been an employee of the garage. A police spokesperson said that Narh may have attempted to shield himself from the flooding by entering the car.
Man killed by National Guard truck
A National Guard truck hit and killed an 82-year-old man as he was crossing a busy Chinatown street the afternoon of Tues., Nov. 6.
Kwok Fu of Queens was run over by the truck near the intersection of Canal and Centre Streets at around 1:30 p.m., police said. Fu was rushed to New York Downtown Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
No criminality is suspected; police said the investigation is ongoing.
National Guard trucks have been present throughout Downtown and elsewhere in the city since Nov. 1, when the Guard began delivering food, water and supplies to victims of Hurricane Sandy.
