Police are investigating the death of a baby who may have drowned in his Midtown home on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, at 3:20 p.m. on Oct. 6 police responded to a 911 call regarding an infant in need of help inside an apartment at 515 West 42nd Street. Upon their arrival, officers found 1-year-old Javeon Canty, unconscious and unresponsive, with no obvious signs of trauma.
A spokesperson for the NYPD stated that the mother told police that Canty was in the bathtub prior to his death. The mother said she walked away and when she came back, Canty was underwater and unconscious.
EMS rushed Canty to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
