Battery Park City Cares, a neighborhood group formed to raise money for the tsunami disaster, marked the one-month anniversary of the event Jan. 26 with a community observance ceremony at P.S./I.S. 89. Above, Susie Klusendorf, 12, places a flower honoring the dead from one of the countries where people died – the current estimate is 220,000 deaths. Local leaders and groups have worked with the American Red Cross to set up donation drop-off points at Downtown locations including Wall Street Rising, 25 Broad St., the Educational Alliance at 197 E. Broadway, and near the World Trade Center E subway station.
