A woman held a sign reading, “Tahia Mesr,” which means “Long Live Egypt,” at a candlelight rally last Friday in Union Square to celebrate Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s abdicating power a week earlier. The several dozen people chanted, “Long live Egypt!” as well as “Tunis! Libya!” and also chanted in Arabic. They called for ending emergency law in Egypt, releasing all political prisoners and establishing a transitional presidential council, freedom of the press and freedom to form political parties.
