On Monday, a group of antiwar grandmothers, Raging Grannies, tried to enlist at the Times Square recruiting station. When they were turned down, they sat blocking the door. A total of 18 were arrested. The grandmothers, some using walkers, said they were willing to go to Iraq to take the place of young soldiers so that they would still have a chance to lead full lives. They sang protest songs, including “There’s No Business Like War Business” and “Take Me Out of the War Game.” Their lawyer, Norman Siegel, said, “This is classic Gandhi-King civil disobedience. This brings attention to the war. It’s an honor to be their lawyer.”
