Volume 76, Number 30 | December 20 – 26, 2006
Scene
Thousands marched on Fifth Ave. Saturday to protest the police killing of Sean Bell. Billed as “Shopping for Justice,” the march was supposed to take up one traffic lane but there were so many people, it filled most of Fifth Ave., stretching 10 blocks. In the most often heard chant, people counted from 1 to 50 — the number of shots fired at Bell and his two friends. At the march’s end by Macy’s, the protesters peacefully dispersed.
