With anticipation high for the school year’s start, here’s a look back at the first day of school last year. Sixth St.; the Gupta kids, who were entering the school’s pre-K and first and third grades, looked psyched for school; Christian Barnes, who was entering 11th grade at the East Side Community School, on 12th St., dropped off his little brother Julian, a new pre-K student at The Earth School. Christian had been taking skateboarding as a physical education elective and practiced his “kick flips” and “nose ollies” over the summer; sisters Gina and Nadia, on their way to Tompkins Square Middle School.
