Sheran Theodoro, a longtime Greenwich Village resident, who was active in the Church of St. Luke-in-the-Fields on Hudson St., died Sun., March 20, at age 62.
She was diagnosed with cancer a little over a year ago, said her daughter, Athena.
She worked with her husband of more than 30 years, Gus Theodoro, in his restaurants, Gus’s Place in the Village and Figs in Chelsea.
Her involvement in St. Luke-in-the-Fields included teaching in the Sunday school there and serving for many years on the board of directors of St. Luke’s School.
Born in Baptistown, N.J., to Alan and Emma Case, she went to elementary and high school there and studied art for a time at San Diego State University. She returned to Baptistown before graduating to help her mother, who had given birth to her sixth child.
Sheran settled in the Village in the early 1970’s and met her husband-to-be on St. Patrick’s Day 1977 in Amelia’s Restaurant on Sixth Ave. near Bleecker St. where Gus was manager at the time. They were married in 1980.
She was an active supporter of Save The Children and, with her husband, of City Harvest. Sheran Theodoro also worked for Usana, the nutrition and beauty products distributor, and for Wanderful, a designer of event centerpieces. An avid gardener, she was in charge of the floral displays at her husband’s restaurants.
In addition to her husband and her daughter, Athena, another daughter, Christina, also survives. Her mother, two sisters, Cindy and Janice, and three brothers, Roger, Brooks and Mickey, also survive. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial is planned for the Church of St. Luke-in-the-Fields, 487 Hudson St., at 2:30 p.m. May 1.
