Mark Marcucilli, a resident of Southbridge Towers and former assistant director of housing management for the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal who pleaded guilty last September to a series of schemes to defraud both the co-op and the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., was sentenced on March 29 by Federal Judge Barbara S. Jones to a year and a day in prison.
Marcucilli, 49, was charged with obtaining a Southbridge apartment based on a false statement that his father, Fred Marcucilli, lived with him in the Seaport complex although his father really lived elsewhere. He was also charged with illegally receiving $7,000 in rent subsidy money from the L.M.D.C. by falsely stating that his father lived with him. The guilty plea included a charge that he assisted a friend in falsely getting an L.M.D.C. grant.
The federally-funded grant program was approved in 2002 as a way to encourage people to remain or move to Lower Manhattan after 9/11. Southbridge is a Mitchell-Lama, middle class co-op administered by D.H.C.R.
In addition to the prison term, Marcucilli was sentenced to two years of supervised release and ordered to pay $11,663 to the L.M.D.C.
Fred Marcucilli also pleaded guilty and was given a suspended sentence. In a related case, Jody Wolfson, a former Southbridge board of directors member and also a former D.H.C.R. official, pleaded guilty last April to conspiring with Mark Marcucilli to illegally sell her Southbridge apartment. No sentencing date has been set yet for Wolfson.
