Actor Matt Dillon, center, with Edwin Torres of the Committee to Save St. Brigid’s and Sarah McNitt, a fundraiser in the Irish-American community, attended the benefit for the committee Sunday at Solas in the East Village. Dillon and comedian Colin Quinn, who also attended, have added star power to the effort to save the Avenue B church built by Irish boatwrights in 1849. Voicing their continued political support were Council Speaker Chris Quinn and Councilmember Rosie Mendez. The church’s demolition is on hold pending State Supreme Court Judge Barbara Kapnick’s decision on the demolition permit’s validity.
