Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly stabbed a man in the Bronx during an unprovoked attack Sunday afternoon.

According to law enforcement sources, the incident occurred at around 1:15 p.m. on Sept. 29 in Kingsbridge. A 49-year-old man was sitting on the sidewalk in the vicinity of University Avenue and West Kingsbridge Road when the suspect approached him and began making disparaging remarks, police said.

“You insult me,” the suspect said, and then began punching the victim in the stomach, authorities described. The attack escalated when the perp pulled out a sharp metal object and stabbed the victim in both the back and the foot before fleeing the location on foot in an unknown direction.

EMS responded to the scene and rushed the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital in serious but stable condition. Officers from the 50th Precinct responded to the hospital to interview the victim.

Police could not confirm at this time if the two men knew each other or if the victim was alone when the attack occurred.

So far, no arrests have been made, but police on Sunday released photos and video of the suspect. The images show the suspect wearing a blue hood, black jacket and brown boots.

The investigation remains ongoing.
