Police in the Bronx are probing a brazen daytime shooting on Thursday afternoon that left two teens wounded.
NYPD sources say they are still trying to put together exactly the circumstances that led up to the gun violence at the corner of East 176th Street and Anthony Avenue in Mount Hope at around 1:18 p.m. on June 5.
Arriving at the scene, officers from the 46th Precinct found two 17-year-old boys with gunshot wounds, one with a bullet wound to the neck and the other to the arm.
Both victims were rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and listed in stable condition.
Sources familiar with the incident report that the teens were shot from a distance, leaving police mulling over whether they were intended targets or bystanders caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
At least one of the victims attempted to run several feet before collapsing in a puddle of blood, law enforcement sources said. No fewer than two shell casings were also observed at the scene, a source told amNewYork.
Police are still searching for the suspected shooter, believed to be a man wearing all dark clothing who fled eastbound on East 176th Street. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding this shooting can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA). You can also submit tips online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, or on X (formerly Twitter) @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
The 46th Precinct has seen 12 shootings year-to-date through June 1, according to the most recent CompStat report, down from 14 at the same point in 2024. Citywide, the first five months of this year saw the fewest shootings in New York City history, police announced earlier this week.
