Master Song Chang Rong, a Peking Opera star, will be demonstrating the art form Saturday at the Museum of Chinese in the Americas in Chinatown. Master Song is one of the last practitioners of Nan-Dan where males play the female roles.

He is a disciple of Xun Hui Sheng (1900 – 1968), considered to be one of the four greatest Peking opera artists of the 20th century. Master Song, who looks to be much younger than his age, 70, gave a brief performance Monday at the museum with one of his students, Yang Li-Li, who will also be performing Saturday. The show goes from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. April 23, 70 Mulberry St. and is free with the museum’s $3 admission. Reservations are encouraged since the museum’s space is small, (212) 619-4785.
