Libby Pataki, Governor Pataki’s wife, read to schoolchildren at the Vincent J. Fontana Center for Child Protection on Christopher St., as Dr. Fontana, the center’s director, looked on. The Fontana Center is dedicated to advancing state-of-the-art prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Fontana has run successful model programs at the Foundling Hospital for children who have suffered sexual-abuse, and is known worldwide as an activist on behalf of children. The new center will build on the Foundling Hospital’s work and will expand treatment to survivors of other forms of abuse and serve a larger population.
