The Jewish Community Project celebrated the new year Tuesday with its “new” Torah at the Tribeca Rooftop. The scroll dates back to pre-W.W. II Poland and was donated by Howard and Laurie Kaminsky to the group in June. Howard holds the Torah for children to touch with an object during the Rosh Hashanah services, marking the beginning of the Jewish new year. Rabbi Darren Levine, executive director J.C.P., which runs a preschool and Jewish education programs in Tribeca, said the Torah is the soul of the Jewish community and it’s a significant statement when it is brought into a young community.
