Tourneau store robbed at gunpoint; display cases smashed with hammers

A trio of thieves held up a midtown jewelry store at gunpoint Tuesday, smashing display causes and grabbing the goods, police said.

The group hit up the Tourneau store on Madison Avenue, near 53rd Street, just before 2 p.m. At least one shot was fired during the robbery of the high-end jewelers, known for their luxury watches.

Two of the suspects smashed display cases with hammers, making of with an unknown amount of goods, police said. One of them was caught a short time later and was in custody Tuesday.

Police were searching for the other two.
