Mayoral candidate and Council Speaker Gifford Miller, at far right, was in the Village Monday morning, greeting commuters at the Christopher St./Sheridan Sq. subway station, where he told locals he thinks money for a proposed West Side Stadium can be better spent on mass transit. Asked what impact a West Side stadium would have on the Village, Miller said, “I think on Sundays there’s going to be a lot of tailgating. It’s going to be bumper-to-bumper traffic. Already there’s a lot of traffic on the West Side Highway and other parts of the West Side. On Sundays, certainly on a game day, I think it’s going to be a nightmare. I think it will hurt the businesses because I think an awful lot of people who currently come in to shop in New York City on Sundays will decide not to come. So I think there’ll be a significant economic development problem.”
