Transit Sam, Week of April 17, 2014

Thurs., April 17 – Wed., April 23

ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE SUSPENDED THURSDAY, FRIDAY, MONDAY, AND TUESDAY FOR HOLY THURSDAY, GOOD FRIDAY, AND THE SEVENTH AND EIGHTH DAYS OF PASSOVER

Lower Manhattanites, if you haven’t gotten caught in New York-bound Holland Tunnel traffic yet, remember that the New York-bound Pulaski Skyway (connecting Newark and Jersey City) is closed for the next two years (if you have gotten caught, then no need to remind you). While the major delays will take place during the morning rush hour, Thursday night will see some back ups too. One inbound lane will close 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. Expect slow-moving traffic all the way onto Canal St.

All Manhattan-bound lanes of the Brooklyn Bridge will close 11 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, midnight Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, midnight Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, and 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday nights. Expect extra traffic on the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges, and Canal and Delancey Sts.

On West St./Route 9A, one lane will close in each direction between West Thames and Vesey Sts. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

The Downtown Independent Democrats Festival will close Lafayette St. between Canal and Leonard Sts. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The Human Adventure Corp Religious Parade will march across the Brooklyn Bridge into Lower Manhattan Friday morning and early afternoon, taking Park Row to Broadway to Cedar St. to Church St. Curb lanes and sidewalks will be jam-packed with parade-goers.

From the mailbag:

Dear Transit Sam,

I recently got a ticket for alternate side parking. Everything seems to be in order, except the body type. The body type isn’t missing, however, it is the incorrect body type. According to your Automatic Dismissal Checklist, I can get a ticket automatically dismissed if the body type is missing. Would I be able to get this ticket dismissed based on the incorrect body type, or is it just not worth the trouble?

Marian, New York

Dear Marian,

Definitely give it a shot. While incorrect body type is not cause for automatic dismissal, it is an error that you can bring up at your hearing. Show the Administrative Law Judge your registration that lists the correct body type. They should dismiss it. Write back if they don’t.
