ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING IS IN EFFECT ALL WEEK

Don’t even think about driving in Tribeca on Saturday: The Tribeca Family Festival will fully close Greenwich St. between Hubert and Chambers Sts.,  as well as Beach, Duane, Franklin, Jay, and Reade Sts. between Hudson and Greenwich Sts., and Harrison and N. Moore Sts. between West and Hudson Sts. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

On top of that, ESPN Sports Day, also part of the festival event, will close N. Moore St. between Greenwich and West Sts. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Get set for a weekend-long closure of the Brooklyn Bridge: all Manhattan-bound lanes will close 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Monday. During the Brooklyn Bridge closure, the Manhattan Bridge will carry five lanes of westbound traffic and two lanes of eastbound traffic. The Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges will pick up the slack, so expect congestion on Canal and Delancey Sts.

The National MS Society Parade will close curb lanes throughout lower Manhattan 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Affected streets include South, Jackson, Water, Montgomery, Beekman, Pearl, Frankfort, Gold, Spruce, and Center Sts., and Park Row. A festival will follow on Maiden Lane and South St.

Chambers St. will fully close between West Broadway and Greenwich St. 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Thames St. is fully closed between Trinity Pl. and Greenwich St. through July for the demolition of a building.

At the Battery Park Underpass, one lane of the north tube and the entire south tube will close overnight 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday, and 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday.

From the mailbag:

Dear Transit Sam,

Would a ticket with the incorrect state of registration be invalid? My truck is registered in New York but the officer put New Jersey on the ticket. I know tickets can be thrown out on technicalities. Is this one of them?

Rob

Dear Rob,

Yes, if it’s a parking ticket; not necessarily if it’s a moving violation. A parking ticket is the entire case against the owner of the car.  With a moving violation the police officer can make corrections and edits if deemed reasonable by a judge. Readers, you can find the full list of these technicalities on my 2013 Gridlock Sam Parking Calendar, which is available for $5 on gridlocksam.com.
